As I leave the picture, the luminance of the Byrd theater binds in the shadowed tunnel of Richmond, Virginia night. Gemmy Colonial archaea begin to be tapped with graffiti as I draw distance from the big screen. Now it's dark.
Walking the street feeling introspective and esoteric, in good Zoomer fashion, I'm reminded of Tom Cruise wandering the streets of New York in "Eyes Wide Shut". Richmond, Virginia is hostile to lit streets. She has seen the fires of night destroy her. However, Kubrick's streets of New York are generously alive in a bright glow. Even in the wee hours, NYC has its eyes wide shut. Awake even when asleep. A place considered as a dream to many.
